Why I play
I play because of what happens in a room when the music starts. The talking stops, and for an hour everyone in it is listening to the same thing.
That is what I am trying to make happen, whether the room holds forty people or four hundred.
What I play
Mostly Chopin and Mozart — nocturnes, waltzes, sonatas. I play for an hour without repeating myself, and I shape the programme to the room: quieter under a dinner service, fuller for a ceremony or a reception.
